Neil McCrank, QC

Neil McCrank was formerly senior counsel to Borden Ladner Gervais in Calgary where his practice focused on oil and gas and energy litigation. He has provided strategic advice on major provincial energy projects, including development of the oil sands as well as electricity generation and transmission projects.
Neil served as Alberta’s Deputy Justice Minister from 1989 to 1998 before chairing the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board from 1998 until 2007. In 2007, he served as Chairman of a Task Force to Review the Governance of Alberta’s Agencies, Boards and Commissions. In 2008, he served as a Special Representative of the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development to make recommendations to improve the regulatory systems in Northern Canada.
He previously served as a Member of the Board of Directors of AltaGas Ltd., TSO Energy Corp and SiGNa Oilfield Canada Inc. Neil is the Honorary Colonel of the 41 Combat Engineers Regiment and Chairman Emeritus of the Canadian Energy Research Institute.
Neil obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and his law degree from Queen’s University. He is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.
